Dear Reader,
_
D.B. Cooper is an
iconic figure in American history. He has rightfully earned this
place because he is the only person to ever hijack an airplane and
never be caught. It is this mystery that lead me to investigate the
details of his infamous crime. Before this project, I had only heard
the name in passing and did not realize the difficulty of his
feat.
Before researching this topic, I knew very little about the anonymous man now known as D.B. Cooper. The only thing that I really knew was that he is the only person in American history to hijack an airplane and get away with it. I also knew that Mr. Cooper managed to escape the plane by jumping out of it in midflight.
Throughout my research, there was one question that pushed me to find my information. Why did D.B. Cooper do what he did and how did it help him succeed? In order to answer this question, I researched a lot of information. I found out the intimate details of the crime, especially the small facts that led to his success.
I found my information from multiple sources across the internet, making sure that all of the sources matched up and agreed with each other. I also went through various efforts to make sure that these sources were as credible as possible. If you read through my research paper, you will notice several sources listed at the end.
Throughout my research, I learned that it was the finer details of his crime that allowed D.B. Cooper to reach success. For example, it was his requests that the plane fly slower and at a lower altitude that made it much more difficult for military planes to follow. This explains why he had these odd requests. Every odd little fact that he asked for, all had a purpose. All of this added up to allowing D.B. Cooper to successfully hijack an airplane.
After researching, I now have a better understanding of D.B. Cooper's plan. I never realized how important the little details to this event were until I performed this research. I would like you, the reader, to learn that it is the small details to D.B. Cooper's crime that led him to success.
Throughout my research I have included three separate genres. I have included a diary entry, a newspaper article, and a wanted poster. The diary entry shows D.B. Cooper's mindset going into the crime. The newspaper article shows the historical significance of his crime. The wanted poster is simply an artistic portrayal of this event in history. If you are interested in how someone could ever commit such an act and succeed, then please investigate further along with me.
Sincerely,
Brandon Francis
